This is a full-time position with occasional mandatory overtime, including nights and Saturdays. This position entails much more than the production of original art. The primary duties are listed at left and described below.

In addition to the duties described below, you may be required to carry out other duties of a similar nature, see the bottom of this page. Producing Original Art

 

 

Time spent producing art is dependant on our customer's needs, which are variable. At times you may experience "dry spells" in which several days pass with no art production, during which time you will be required to perform other duties. Other situations may demand several days of overtime producing nothing but art.

Considerable time may be spent producing mock-ups of shirt and garment designs using customer supplied art. Once a design is approved, you will need to produce screen print separations and film for the job. Experience in screen printing, especially preparing screen print specific color separations, is highly desireable. Screen print separation requirements are quite different from those of traditional off-set printing and training will be provided.

You must be able to create rough sketch ideas for critique and modification as well as final art using a variety of methods. You should be talented in pen & ink and colored pencil at a minimum. Talent in other art forms, such as watercolor, airbrush, charcoal and acrylics are a plus.

We use Photoshop and Illustrator (or CorelDRAW) on Windows XP PC's.

Flexibility, openness to constructive criticism and an ability to take direction and create art that may not fit your own personal vision are key to this part of the job. Although your creativity, talents, and vision are important, our customers have final say over every aspect of the art.

As a condition of employment you will be asked to sign a contract releasing all of your rights to the art you produce for hire. By signing the contract you agree that Deluxe Engraving and Screen Print Service, Inc. will own all working sketches, versions and final art that you produce as you produce it (you may not throw away or destroy *any* art or sketches you produce for hire without permission), as well as the copyright to the art, the right to modify, reproduce, display in private or in public, or destroy the art as we deem fit. Deluxe will retain all profits earned by the reproduction or distribution of the art or it derivatives. You will not own the art you produce for hire and therefore you may not legally reproduce it, sell it or display it in public or private.
Redrawing Customer Supplied Art: The customer's art is “sacred” and must be respected.
  Occasionally, we receive art from a customer that must be redrawn and cleaned up. This may require anything from simply tracing the art and scanning it, to a complete re-interpretation of the supplied art depending on the customer's needs. Again, you may be required to reproduce art that does not match your personal aesthetic.
Miscellaneous Duties: All employees share in these duties.

 

 Finally, at times, you may be called upon to perform duties outside your "official job description" such as cleaning, (vacuuming, cleaning your gender bathroom, mopping, dusting, etc.), folding, counting and boxing shirts, laminating, cutting with an x-acto knife and safety straight edge, and other duties of a similar nature. These are duties shared by all employees.
